The SMI Aussie 510 & 900 Kebab Skewer SS™ range are our “XHD” (extra heavy duty) range of over the “FLAME ‘N’ COALS™” skewers. The 900 model is one of our largest/longest cooking “skewers”, some 900mm in length and its smaller sibling the 510 model is 510mm long. Both are perfect for use cooking in or on all types of solid fuel fire pits, grills, bbqs, chimineas, ground fires and much more.
Commonly called skewer, kebab, shaslick, shiskebab, shashlik or similar they are designed so you can secure or “skewer” your produce on them and use them to cook over fire, resting them on two supporting edges of the fire containing vessel being used or similar.
Measuring 510mm & 900mm long overall respectively in length (510 model & 900 model) they have our classic “Ring Scroll” design handle in the 510 model range and the classic “Shepherds Head Crook” design handle (the same as our SMI Fire Poker range) in the 900 model range with each model having a decorative and strengthening spiral twist design incorporated towards one end for ergonomics and ease of usage.
There is a huge 400mm & 600mm length of produce capacity (510 model & 900 model respectively) on the solid flat rectangular bar to secure your desired “KOOKUP™” onto before the start of the spiral twist and handle that makes up the remainder of their length.
Each individual “skewer” is 100% Australian made using 100% Australian materials in a traditional black smithed method by Slot Me In™. They are made from hygienic and durable 304 food grade stainless steel for ease of care, cleaning, and repetitive usage for a lifetime of enjoyment. No unnecessary waste going to landfill as they are designed for the most discerning of over the fire cooks and will outlive the cook too.
The rectangular flat profile of the solid stainless steel bar used in each SMI Aussie 510 & 900 Kebab Skewer™ model ensures that the produce skewered to it will not spin or roll when rotated or flipped over during the cooking process, a common problem encountered with round single prong skewers. Being of all stainless steel construction too ensures ease of maintenance as they won’t rust and don’t require continual seasoning or oiling as ones made from black or raw steel do. Being made from a single piece of stainless steel with no wooden handle also enables them to be fully immersed in water and soaked, if need be to enable cleaning or even put in your dishwasher too (probably not the 900 model unless you have a really big dishwasher). You can’t wash wooden handled skewers in a dishwasher by the way as they will delaminate and soaking wooden handled skewers swells and splits the wood too. Further wooden handled skewers proport to be cool to the touch and maybe so but the handles are often burnt when using them near open fires and exposed to flames. Not so with our all stainless steel skewers from Slot Me In™, they will “keep on keeping on”, oh and by the way using any cooking implement over “FLAME ‘N’ COALS™” should always be assumed as “hot” and a simple pair of leather heat resistant gloves used when handling will ensure safety of the user. Surprisingly though you will find in use with produce on that our skewers are only warm to the touch when used over a fire, but prevention is better than a cure as they say and we recommend wearing gloves with any implement used in or on a fire, bbq or similar.
The SMI Aussie 510 & 900 Kebab Skewer SS™ models measure (510mm L x 38mm H x 12mm W and weigh 150 grams each, 510 model) & (900mm L x 35mm H x 12mm W and weigh 270 grams each, 900 model). They are sold in sets of 4 units for each model weighing 0.600kg & 1.080kg respectively for the 510 & 900 models.
