The SMI Open Fireplace Fire GR8’s™ (“Fire Grates”) are available in 5 size options to suit our 5 size open fireplaces models 600, 900, 1200, 1500 & 1800 both single face opening and double face opening open fireplace models.

Built to withstand the hottest of fires all models are guaranteed for life and will outlive the user. There isn't a fire grate on the market anywhere in the world as robust, durable and efficient as ours, yes a big statement and we stand by it.

Each fire grate is made from 10mm thick BlueScope Xlerplate™ Tru-Spec™ HA350 grade steel by Slot Me In™ right here in Australia. Unlike most fire grates that are either made from cast iron or consisting of welded bars, our fire grate is made from a single piece of precision CNC laser cut steel then precision folded by a CNC brake press folder to form a unique one piece cradle. It wont crack over time like cast iron fire grates do nor will it bend or fail like welded bar type fire grates do either. The legs are inserted into the cradle body and fully welded into their square dowel holes and will not fail as they are also 10mm thick and made from the same steel as the cradle body. Models 600 & 900 have two legs while models 1200, 1500 & 1800 have three legs.

All open fireplaces whether traditional brick and stone or steel firebox inserts require a fire grate to elevate the burning firewood above the floor of the open fireplace. Oxygen is required to be drawn in from the front of the open fireplace opening under and through the cradle face to enable an efficient combustion and burn. Our fire grates are 100mm clear of the base of the open fireplace allowing very efficient drawing of oxygen as are our specifically designed cut outs both on the base and front and rear folded cradle faces. Having a 100mm clearance under the cradle base to the open fireplace base has another bonus too, there is no need to remove it for cleaning, simply use a fire coal rake, ashpan and broom to clean underneath it after your last fire has extinguished and cooled.

The cradle folds (faces) front and rear are slightly angled and a further 120mm higher from the cradle base allowing a large firewood volume holding area which secures your burning firewood in the area intended for it. All up the height to the top of the cradle top edges is 220mm and the depth of the cradle (front to rear) is 405mm deep, a huge area for plenty of burning firewood.

As our open fireplaces and fire grates are made from the same 10mm thick steel the thermal energy they hold and radiate outwards exceeds any other open fireplace on the market resulting in more heat output for the amount of firewood burned.

All models of our open fireplaces 600, 900, 1200, 1500 & 1800 require our matching model fire grate for use and under no circumstances should you burn on the base of an open fireplace especially stone, brick or concrete as you run the risk of spalling (the concrete, stone or brick exploding violently) due to incompatible thermal expansion which could cause serious injury.

Our fire grates are perfectly at home in any other open fireplace also so if you need to replace your existing failed or broken fire grate for your traditional brick or stone open fireplace for the last time in your lifetime one of our five models here will suit.
