As winter sets in here in Oz we are proud to announce the arrival and release of THE WOMBAT FIRE PIT & CAMP COOKER™, the bigger sibling to our “original” take anywhere “flat pack” wonder from down under, THE WEDGE FIRE PIT & CAMP COOKER™. Invented, designed and manufactured by Slot Me In™, it uses only 100% Aussie materials (5mm thick BlueScope “TREADPLATE PATTERN” XLERPLATE™ steel, commonly referred to as “checker plate”). THE WOMBAT FIRE PIT & CAMP COOKER™ is one seriously large and versatile fire pit and camp cooker. It will ideally sit very much at home in the backyard, beside the mancave or out in the Aussie bush with larger groups of campers and organizations such as tag along 4×4 expeditions, school camp groups, sporting clubs, scout & girl guide groups, bars, clubs and bistro’s to mention a few.
Our design criteria was to produce a huge fire box and large versatile cooking area and ability to cater for larger groups of people, as well as incorporate all of the unique features like we did with the “original” flat pack fire pit and camp cooker, THE WEDGE FIRE PIT & CAMP COOKER™. It is not designed to replace THE WEDGE FIRE PIT & CAMP COOKER™, rather it is a larger option to cater for different personal tastes and requirements. We had been continually asked (over the years) to make a bigger version of THE WEDGE FIRE PIT & CAMP COOKER™ and resisted, after all it is the most sought after 100% Aussie fire pit & camp cooker on the market (available in over 60 stores Australia wide) and for a very good reasons too, it was the “original”, namely in design and originality, size, weight, practicality, versatility , robust durability and above all quality and value for money self contained fire pit & camp cooker to appear on the market dating back to the late 1970’s and still going strong some almost 4 decades later.
THE WOMAT as we like to refer to it is one solid unit just like its iconic name sake in the Aussie bush. It weighs in as a complete kit at 48.3 kg and measures 710mm long x 710mm wide x 360mm high set up. It completely assembles and disassembles with NO TOOLS OR FIXINGS what so ever using our innovative dual slot system, packing down to an incredible 30mm flat in the UNDERTRAY (measuring 760mm x 760mm x 30mm packed up). It has our unique branding on all four sides which aids in allowing the fire to breath and burn efficiently, cooking support bars (4) which can hold 2 of our hotplates or 2 grills or 1 of each. It also has 3 that’s right 3 rotisserie attachments so you run say lamb, chicken and pork all at once and still use 2 grills underneath all at the same time catering for a huge hungry crowd. It will even hold 4 large camp ovens all at once as well. After cooking it is a huge self-contained above ground fire pit to keep a large group nice and toasty warm beside.
We continued our environmental practice of incorporating our “original” water fill-able UNDERTRAY in the kit, (made from “treadplate” or commonly called checker plate, aluminium), this time in keeping with the fire box design theme. So it’s safe to use on lawns and decks (providing the tray is filled with water) and you won’t scar the earth or burn the grass. Not only does it look good (with the use of “TREADPLATE” materials for both the fire box & undertray), it’s built to take the hottest of fires and keep on keeping on year after year. Being an Aussie invention we are proud to manufacture it right here in Australia too using 100% Aussie materials, providing and keeping jobs here in Australia.
